Volunteer Spotlight : Corporate Volunteering

It’s Volunteers Week from 3-9 June and we couldn’t do what we do without our amazing team of volunteers. This week, we’re highlighting some of our volunteer roles to showcase the work they do:

Corporate Volunteers

FareShare Greater Manchester opens its doors on a regular basis to corporate volunteers who come to experience what we do here. Companies take the opportunity to team-build, improve their corporate responsibility and sustainability as well as feeding hungry people across Greater Manchester.

During their time with us, the corporate volunteers have full training at the start of their session before picking orders and helping our drivers load up the vans ready for deliveries. After lunch, which is provided using surplus food, our visitors have the opportunity to go out on deliveries with our drivers. They can witness for themselves where the food goes and the people who benefit from it.

Mutually beneficial

Corporate Partnerships include staff volunteering days. Our corporate partners send members of staff for team-building days where we can take between 4 and 8 volunteers.

The benefits of corporate volunteering are mutually beneficial. We have extra help in the warehouse and on deliveries and the volunteers also get a lot out of it. Some people enjoy their time so much, they sign up to become part of our regular volunteering team!

At the end of each corporate volunteering day, we ask the volunteers for feedback on what their time with us has been like. Here’s what some of them had to say about what had the most impact on them:

We love collaborating with companies based across Greater Manchester who are as passionate about creating a positive impact as we are. Whatever the size of your company there are plenty of ways to work with FareShare Greater Manchester. All in the name of protecting the planet and helping people in need.

We are seeking support from the business community across the region to help us continue supporting those people for whom hunger is an everyday reality. Here, at FareShare Greater Manchester, we believe that together we can:

  • Provide millions of meals each year to people in Greater Manchester who would otherwise go without food;
  • Support hundreds of charities and community groups that feed thousands of people across the Greater Manchester region;
  • Tackle food waste.

By becoming a corporate partner of FareShare Greater Manchester, you will be alleviating hunger, tackling food waste AND will help engage your colleagues and clients, create positive PR opportunities and help your company achieve its CSR and Sustainability objectives.

We are, in essence, a small charity creating a big impact in the communities across the region.

The food waste hierarchy calls for food to feed people first

Food companies are legally obliged to use food to feed people before sending to anaerobic digestion or for animal feed. We help them use their surplus to feed people first.
